In 2008, the year beginning Obama’s administration, the GDP
was 14.83 trillion dollars. In 2016, at the end of Obama’s administration the
GDP was 16.716 trillion dollars. That calculates out to slightly more the 1.5%
GDP growth per year.
In 2017, the one full year of President Trump’s
administration, the GDP was 17.096 trillion dollars. That calculates out to
about 2.2% GDP growth for his first year in office. To me, this is a simple and
straightforward way to look at GDP growth. It allows for comparing one
administration to another. Once the Trump administration has more than one year
of data, this comparison will be more
useful.
