President Obama used
executive orders to short-circuit laws he did not like. Another way of stating
it is to say that he purposely stopped enforcing laws which were legally
implemented by congress. To be more explicit, by refusing to enforce laws, he
was effectively writing his own laws. This is certainly not the way the
founders intended our government to work. However, his executive orders did
become the “Law of the land”. He accomplished this in some cases by defining
his executive orders as “selective enforcement” which he claimed was allowed by
“executive privilege”.
Ok, since Obama set the
precedent of using “executive privilege” in this manner, then it logically
follows that President Trump can also use the same executive privilege to
suspend the enforcement of some laws. “Selective enforcement” is really
supposed to be used when there are limited resources to enforce a given law. So
why not use this in a similar manner to accomplish President Trump’s
immigration policies which the democrats are stonewalling.
Point number one, in
order to provide adequate border security until the wall is built, there is a
need to allocate additional ICE officers for border security, and the upgrading
of border “barriers”. In addition, there is the need to allocate additional
ICE officers to provide “special enforcement” of immigration laws in “sanctuary
areas”. There is a need for more ICE resources to destroy the MS13 gangs and
other similar groups. It is logical to take the following actions to reallocate
immigration resources.
Suspend all “lottery
immigration” and “chain immigration” activities thereby freeing up resources
which can be reassigned. Drastically reduce the number of legal immigrants who
will be allowed access into the U.S. to free up more ICE resources. The
resources freed up by these actions will be reassigned to upgrading border
“barriers”, increased ICE enforcement in “sanctuary areas”, and dealing with
criminal activities by illegal aliens with emphasis on gangs and drug dealers.
This reallocation of ICE resources should remain in place until the border wall
is built and the “sanctuary area” requirements are no longer needed.
